Always Wanted to Surf the Summer Waves of Moonstone Beach and Trinidad, California?
Safety is our number 1 priority with your children, second is having fun.
On that note, summers of 2020/2021 surf camps were a different kind of wave for us and we had a successful and safe 2020 & 2021 summers of 'masked on the beach' surfcamps. Paddling into 2023, Moonstone Beach Surfcamps always continues to prioritize physical and emotional health, safety and fun.
In the big picture, we take seriously and responsibly teach and lifeguard up to 40+ participants in our potentially wild ocean---& we appreciate that the thick wetsuits we all wear, ultimately keep us all floating happily on top of the ocean waves.
Our awesome crew of male and female instructor/lifeguards participate in an annual training and do a great job at our surfcamps continually meeting lots of little needs through the day to keep everyone safe, healthy, not sun burned, hydrated, guided in wave riding and lifeguarding self and others, inspired, included and Stoked!!
Camp is from 9-3pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tues & Thurs are non-camp days (good time to rest and rejuvenate).
We are located at Moonstone Beach in Westhaven/Trinidad, CA and set up at the south end of the Moonstone Beach parking lot.
***MBSC provides all the hard equipment and staff. Participant's provide their own wetsuit (see Home page and Frequently Asked ?s for wetsuit info)
The kids are to arrive at 9 in the morning with their wetsuits half way on & warm shirt/sweatshirt on their upper body.
*Important* Each participant should have a beach bag, tub or 5 gal bucket (to put wet wetsuit in at end of the day) that includes: lunch, water bottle, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes for the end of the day. 2023 Summer: if concerned re hygiene kids will need to bring their own hand sanitizer
Kids will be waiting with the instructors on the beach, not in the parking lot, for parent or guardian to get them at 3 pm
*** Tuesday and Thursday are non-camp days. Their homework during on non-camp days is create a piece of surf or ocean art to bring and share on Friday AND also watch a surf movie. Some fave titles include: Endless Summer, Endless Summer 2, Step Into Liquid, Riding Giants, Follow the Sun, Soul Surfer, Surfs Up, Blue Hawaii-Elvis, Gidget and Moondoggy....
***Friday is our lunch beach party for the kids and we encourage them to wear floral beach attire, crazy sun hats and only if able, contribute a HOMEMADE (ie not packaged cookies) sweet or savory item to share (approx 10-30 small servings). Bring normal lunch on Friday and then the kids can enjoy shared items too.
~~~for lunches and at the party, we encourage to do our best to create low-to-no single-use plastic waste~~~
*** (Afternoons from 200-300pm on Wednesday and Friday are great times for parents to come to the waters edge to take photos or don a wetsuit and join the kids in the surf)
*Lost and Found is on the hood of the surf truck each morning
Before departing on Friday, come to the truck to pick up surfcamp photo and we are also selling cool Moonstone Beach Surfcamp Tshirts, hats and Hoodies -available for sale on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons
